The GP3 Series

Launched in 2010, the aim of the new GP3 Series is to give young promising drivers a chance to develop their driving skills and jump to the next step: the GP2 Series.

The Series has been designed to make it the perfect driver training ground for GP2 and Formula One. All but one GP3 event will follow the Formula One European Calendar giving drivers firsthand experience of racing in the Grand Prix environment and gaining that all important F1 exposure.

Format of the race week-end:

Friday:

2 times 30 minute Free Sessions

 

Saturday:

30 minute qualifying

Race 1 right after the GP2 Series race 1

Starting grid determined by morning’s qualifying

 

Sunday:

Race 2 Sprint

The starting grid for Race 2 will be decided by the rankings from Race 1, the 8 top finishers will start in reverse order.

 

 

Points allocation (new in 2012) :

Race 1: Points allocated the same as in GP2 Series. The top ten secures 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1 respectively. 1 additional point will be awarded to the driver who secures the fastest lap of the race and 4 points for the pole winner.

 

Race 2: Top 8 drivers secure points (15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1). 1 additional point will be awarded to the driver who secures the fastest lap of the race.
