Saint-Pierre-du-Perray, France – 28 Septembre 2026 – Tuukka Taponen will drive with ART Grand Prix next season as the Finnish driver steps up to the FIA Formula 2 Championship.
Taponen returns to a familiar environment at ART Grand Prix, having previously raced with the French team during his first FIA Formula 3 season in 2025. Two years later, the 19-year-old will take the next step in his single-seater career as he prepares for his Formula 2 debut.
During his latest F3 season, Taponen emerged as one of the strongest performers in the second half of the season as he scored 91 points, more than any other driver over that period, showcasing his full potential and consistency on his way to third place in the Championship. On top of that, he also enjoyed the satisfaction of his first pole position in Budapest and the sweet taste of victory in Madrid, in the season’s final round.
Now supported by Antti Vierula, who brings extensive experience from Formula 1, Taponen enters this next chapter with a strong structure around him, allowing him to focus fully on his development and performance on track.

I believe we have a good chance of fighting for the front positions right away. ART is a team I know well, and I know how they work. F2 will introduce a new car version next season, along with regulation changes, which will level the playing field for all teams. It’s also great to return to a team that already knows me and wanted me back. I’m confident I’ll get the support I need from the team to take this next step and pursue my goal of reaching Formula 1.”

The 2027 season will also mark the beginning of a new technical chapter for Formula 2, with a new generation of car and changes to the regulations presenting a fresh challenge for both drivers and teams.
